Irrigation Rain Sensors
Rain Sensors
A rain sensor can be an important component of an irrigation system. These sensors are designed to prevent the need to manually deactivate irrigations systems when it rains. Instead these sensors detect the rain and shut the irrigation system down automatically. There are both wired and wireless sensor options available. Most of these sensors use hygroscopic disks. These disks enlarge when exposed to rainfall and shrink again when they dry out. As the disks enlarge, they depress an electrical switch which disables the irrigation system. Some sensors also contain a component that operates as a freeze sensor. This is used to keep the irrigation system disabled while temperatures are below freezing.
